Where we'll be . . .
We'll be gathering in Taos, New Mexico, considered one of the top ten places to visit in the United States.
Located two and a half hours from the Albuquerque airport, after your drive through Santa Fe, you'll pass through some exquisite areas, including about a half hour drive adjacent to the Rio Grande River. You'll crest the last mountain, and Taos pours into your vision.
If you can spend a few days before or after the program, Taos is rich with history, museums, art galleries, trails, and so much to do.
As a matter of fact, about half a mile to the right of El Monte Segrado, right on Kit Carson Road (the road El Monte is on) you'll find an amazing array of art galleries and a few museums, including the Kit Carson Museum.
Another few hundred feet more is Taos Plaza.

The weather is great when you'll be here. We're at about 7000 feet. At this elevation, staying hydrated is essential. You might notice fatigue after just a few steps—that’s normal at this altitude!
The best remedy? Water, water, and more water. Keep sipping throughout the day, and listen to your body.
We'll be staying at the outstanding El Monte Secrado Hotel. Buffet lunches are part of the program, as is dinner on Saturday. You'll dine with the faculty and other members.
The El Monte offers great places, indoors and out, for outstanding photography.
El Monte Segrado
Know there is no public transportation in Taos; no busses, taxis, Uber, Lyft.
The Hotel does have a shuttle that can take you to most places you'll want to visit.
We do not have a room block at El Monte - rooms are about $400/night if we did. You can call them directly or do an Internet search for lower prices.
Other places to stay include:
Taos Valley Lodge
Don Fernando de Taos
Willow Hotel
There are myriad places for dinner (including the taco stands, there are about 100 places to eat in Taos!)
Here are some of them:
De la Tierra – in El Monte
Doc Martins – in the Historical Taos Inn - right in the heart of town. Live music every night.
Myrters Steakhouse – a steak house, right across the street from the Taos Inn (best to make reservations)
Lambert's – just a few hundred feet up the block from Martyers (best to make reservations)
Aji Restaurant – Peruvian, Latin
Orlando's – voted the best Mexican in Taos
Sagebrush Grill and Cantina – Live music in the cantina
The Love Apple – great restaurant, cash only (best to make reservations)
The Gorge Bar & Grill – overlooking Taos Plaza
If you are able to extend your time in Taos, there are at least three things to consider seeing:
Taos Pueblo – Over 1,000 years of tradition.
The Rio Grande Gorge Bridge – 650 feet above the gorge giving you some jaw-dropping views.
Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort and Spa — nine hot springs; tucked between rugged desert cliffs and a cottonwood-lined bosque (about 40 minute from Taos). Totally worth the drive.
If you are a skier, come back in the winter to ski Taos Mountain, one of the top ski resorts in the country.
